Local 227 provides annually the Wayne Brown Memorial Bursary. Local 227 allocates $1500.00 annually, to be awarded to up to 3 applicants, as selected by the education committee. To be eligible, a student must be entering their first year at a university, college, or trade school and have a parent or legal guardian be a member(s) in good standing with CUPE Local 227. Wayne Brown was a Utility Worker who passed away suddenly in 2008. He was a union member in good standing for over 33 years, most recently with CUPE Local 227.
CUPE Nova Scotia Higgins Insurance Scholarships are awarded by CUPE Nova Scotia. Two scholarships valued at $1000.00 each are available annually. Because of Local 227’s affiliation to CUPE Nova Scotia our family members are able to apply.

The Muriel Duckworth Memorial Bursary is a bursary offered in partnership between the NSFL and Higgins Insurance. The bursary is valued at $1000.00 and is open to the family of Local 227.
